The Defense360 microsite is the home for research conducted by experts from the CSIS International Security Program (ISP). Defense360 features reliable, nonpartisan analysis and commentary from ISP experts on key elements of national security policy including strategy, budget, forces, acquisition, and reform. This analysis informs policymakers’ decisions on the threats and opportunities shaping U.S. interests at home and abroad.
In addition to commentary and analysis, the microsite features Defense360 Series, collections of timely research that address the most pressing questions in national security and provide recommendations for a way forward. Current series include research on defense reform, the outlook for the defense sector, and the presidential transition and its implications on national security.

Prior to joining CSIS, Dr. Hicks served as principal deputy under secretary of defense for policy and deputy under secretary of defense for strategy, plans, and forces. She focuses on U.S. national security and foreign policy, geopolitical trends, and defense matters.

Mr. Harrison joined CSIS from the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, where he was a senior fellow for defense budget studies. He previously worked at Booz Allen Hamilton and in the aerospace industry and served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

Mr. Hunter focuses on issues affecting the industrial base, including emerging technologies, sequestration, acquisition policy, and industrial policy. From 2011 to November 2014, Mr. Hunter served as a senior executive in the Department of Defense (DOD).

Mr. Cancian joined CSIS in April 2015 from the Office of Management and Budget, where he spent more than seven years as chief of the Force Structure and Investment Division. Previously, he worked on force structure and acquisition issues in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and spent over three decades in the U.S. Marine Corps.
